Leap.It – A Very Cool Search Engine

As you may know, Skinny has a long history and background in computers, programing, graphic design and website design.  Well…keeping up with the latest technologies is nearly a full-time job.  So I wanted to tell you about an awesome new search engine that I discovered.

Leap.it is a mash-up style search engine that I have begun using for specific purposes.  It provides an awesome presentation of general search topics for your review.  For example…I decided to run SkinYourSkunk.com through the engine and see what came back.

What I discovered…and that is the important word…discovered, was some links about SkinYourSkunk.com that I never noticed before.  I found the following links to pages featuring references to our Guitar Skin site.

So…why is this of interest to you???  Good question!  First…for a business owner it is important to gauge your exposure.  Who links to you, why, how, etc.  Backlinks are probably more important than anything for a website because they show that there is interest in your product and will be a source of traffic to your website.

As a professional website designer with my main business at PoconoMediaServices.com, this type of information allows me to help my website clients understand product placement, exposure and so much more.  In the case of SkinYourSkunk.com, I can see very quickly with Leap.it that offering skins on Ebay.com is getting good exposure…that the small commercial videos we put together are attracting attention and that (and this was news to me) our skins on Amazon.com are being featured on TheFind.com and many other personal websites as affiliate links.

So take a look at Leap.it and search for something you are interested in.  Try something generic and view this search engine as a general overview of the topic.  Google is still king and will probably remain that way for a long time.  And if you want to find “skinyourskunk outer space guitar skins”, Google will take you right there.  But if you want to see everything about “skinyourskunk”, Leap.it provides a wonderful overview.

Kakashi Hatake Custom Board Skin–ExtremeBoardSkins.com

As much as we love to sell our beautiful and awesome designs over at ExtremeBoardSkins.com, for your Skateboards, Longboards, Wakeboards, Snowboards or any other size or style board…I personally love doing custom board skin designs.

A customer contacted us with a request for a custom board skin centered around the anime character Kakashi Hatake.  The process is fairly straight forward and our graphic artists dove into the project.  We found some images online that looked cool and sent them to our customer for their thoughts.  A few emails later, we combined the Kakashi Hatake logo along with an image of the character holding a knife with lightning behind him.

Now the final skin needed to be 62” long by 25” wide to cover their board…so…we had to convert the whole design to a high resolution vector graphic using our unique style and process that fully maintains the details of the original graphic.  As you can see, it came out beautiful!

I can’t wait to get a picture from the customer of their completed Custom ExtremeBoardSkins.com skin attached to their board!  This is going to be really amazing!

Customer Appreciation Day – SkinYourSkunk.com

Our customers have made SkinYourSkunk.com the largest Guitar Skin website on the internet and every once in a while…I like to thank them personally and showcase their guitars.

This is our Fire design from our Sci-Fi Movie Posters collection.  Applied to a Jackson guitar, it looks quite awesome!  I’m really a fan of our Poster Guitar Skins.  They bring back memories for me of my childhood, especially the horror and sci-fi styles…and they look awesome.

This is a custom skin of the Tommy Bolin album, Teaser.  Apparently, Tommy Bolin played with Deep Purple back a ways and considering I’m a HUGE fan of Ritchie Blackmore…I’m surprised I didn’t know that.  Tommy has passed away but thanks to our customer, he lives on with this guitar skin and of course, his music.

Being a web designer, computer & web programmer and general geek, I often stalk around the internet to find obscure things.  During one such session, I pulled up a picture of one of our skinned guitars being played live by our customer.  You can find more images of this guitar skin at the SkinYourSkunk.com Customer Gallery.
