All About SkinYourSkunk.com Guitar Skins and Wraps

I’ve been playing guitar professionally, on and off, for about thirty five years.  I’ve been in many bands, recorded many albums worth of material and have a deep love for guitars.  Recently, I opened a Guitar Skin website named SkinYourSkunk.com where we sell vinyl, printed Guitar Skins.  You see…I’ve always loved flashy, cool and original guitar designs, paint jobs and all.  But the problem with this passion is a combination of money and quality.

Unless you are willing to pay thousands of dollars for a truly customized, quality guitar…your choices are mostly limited to low quality instruments.  If you can squeeze out the money for something amazing, chances are you are stuck with that instrument for many, many years.  And if you purchase a quality guitar and decide to customize it…you could end up with a good guitar being ruined.

“I’ve always loved unique guitars!”

This is where Guitar Skins and Wraps come in.  The promise is that you can apply these decals to your existing instrument and transform it into something amazing.  Usually, you can even remove your current skin and replace it with something new at will and without a high cost.  But the reality is different.  Most companies that sell Guitar Decals produce cheap, thin, stickers that basically suck.  They are not much different than a typical paper sticker and usually last about as long.

So…I worked personally with a local print shop owner and we designed a material that solved all that.  SkinYourSkunk.com uses a “marine grade”, premium vinyl that is quite thick.  It includes a clear laminate overlaid on the printed vinyl and a strong but removable adhesive backing.  Coupled with a high definition, high resolution color printing process (using $10,000.00 plus printers), we truly designed a great material that is long lasting, easy to install, sweat resistant and quite beautiful.

We decided early on that trying to manage die cutting our skins to the variety of instruments out there was insane.  My partner suggested that we might sell uncut skins instead…and the idea took off like crazy.  With how easy the material is to work with, it takes even a first timer less than an hour to apply their skin.  And this process gives the customer a sense of accomplishment while allowing them to adjust the skin for that 100% unique look.

I realized early on that SkinYourSkunk.com had to be something special also…meaning our website.  I came up with “Skinny”…our resident, obnoxious and weird little mascot.  I also decided on a quite insane visual design for the website that reflects my personality.  Finally…I knew that we had to offer many, many options for our customers.

“Skinny’s a strange little dude!”

As of today, SkinYourSkunk.com offers over 500 high quality designs split into categories.  From “Evil” to “Cute”, from “Dark” to “Beautiful”…there is something for everyone at SkinYourSkunk.com.  We even added the option of skinning your headstock for that complete look.

SkinYourSkunk.com also partners with sexy models, amazing photographers and graphic designers who provide images that we use on our skins.  Each provider gets a commission when their skin sells.  It works out great for everyone!

A little later we decided to add a Custom Guitar Skin design process.  We would take customer provided images, or hunt up an image for them and create a skin based upon their “vision”.  And as with out normal sales process, we size, position, rotate, etc. the design and provide the customer with a full size proof of the design prior to printing.  Often, we make minor adjustments to the layout and so far, our satisfaction rate is around 98%!  We are proud of that and will always put the customer first.
